BART THE RAVER - Episode 10 - Best night out in Dubai in 2024 so far ... or was it?

It's fair to say that expectations where set high heading out to see the legend that is Carl Cox at Hive in Soho Garden, but it wouldn't have been the best night so far in Dubai unless we did multiple parties in one night - as an old school raver there really is no other way, because clubs and venues close at 3 or 4am already - which is to be honest too early to go home. Rule of thumb - if it's still dark when you get home, you haven't partied properly (IMHO)!



Party 1 - Ibiza meets Dubai


Location - Frenia rooftop bar - Voco Hotel Palm West Beach


As a big fan of the Frenia rooftop for it's stunning views fo the Dubai Harbour and Jumeirah Palm, we decided to drop by at the season opener of Ibiza Meets Dubai. Even though conceptually it should be successful with a combination of great views, uplifting tunes, lively entertainment and a tasty food offering, we were a bit disappointed to find out no-one seemed interested in dancing the night away. So after posting some footage on social media, we set out to Soho Garden.



Party 2 - Enrico Sangiuliano and Carl Cox


Location - Hive - Soho Garden Meydan


Well...arriving on the dance floor at Hive at a bit after midnight...it was a moment of coming home and realizing I would not have to get my phone out of my pocket alot as this would be 4 hours of banging techno tunes !


Enrico Sangiuliano was already throwing tune after tune towards the crowd and the vibe and ambiance were exhilarating, it was obvious that we were in for a good night. Soho Garden had promised the ultimate techno showdown and they intended to deliver upon it !



His set was extremely well build up and as a warm up to Carl Cox, we were getting really excited about what the legend would bring to the dance floor in Hive. If this was warm up, what would the main act have in mind for us ??



At 2am - the moment of truth, and oops, we were actually a bit disappointed in the first 30-45 minutes of his set. Having been spoilt by Enrico Sangiuliano for two hours, Carl Cox had actually a tough time following suite, however he more than made up for that in the second hour of his set.


At the age of 60, he still remains a techno god and the deeper we got into the night, the harder the beats sounded and the louder the crowd roared. In the end he kept on going until 4h15 so he was clearly enjoying himself and the reactions of the crowd.



Was it the best night out in Dubai in 2024 so far? I would have to say 'NO'! That crown still goes to Indira Paganotto who's eclectic set of (hard) techno, (psy)trance and weird titbits mixed in at Code earlier this year blew me out of the water!


I do love that Soho Garden brings in the big names - my top three so far:

  1. Indira Paganotto at Code

  2. Enrico Sangiuliano and Carl Cox at Hive

  3. Amelie Lens at Hive


With Bicep (23rd of November) and Kobosil (28th of December) announced already for later this year - there are some great parties to look forward too. Not convinced however about Soho Garden moving all staff and resources to the Chile World Island coming Saturday 9th of November for the opening of Soho Beach with Keinemusik. Even though it would be great to be part of such a unique opening event, at the current price of 5000 AED for a general admission ticket - I will skip this smartphone fiesta!


Party 3 - Cosmic Alchemy


Location - Desert Inn - Ras Al Khaimah


In Dubai, a night out isn't complete, unless you go to an afters boat party or a desert sunrise rave. Sacred Circle is always a good choice, but when there is a psytrance desert event going on, one should not think twice and just hop in your car and drive out to ... Ras Al Khaimah in this case!



Yes agreed, it's a bit of a drive and yes for many it's panic attack music, but for those that love the ambiance and music and in this case the craziness of Hentai Cameramen, it is well worth the effort ! MAKE DUBAI HENTAI AGAIN !!!



What a party ... if a techno showdown felt like coming home, as a fan of psytrance since 1994/95, Cosmic Alchemy was a dream come true! The music, the location, the people, the vibe...the psy....! Already booked the next one in my calendar (30th November - 1 December)!
